Installation with Leon Berger for the exhibition «My Home, My Castle, My Grave, My Cave» by Raphael Sbrzesny at the Kunstverein Wilhelmshöhe, Ettlingen (17.07.2021 – 15.08.2021)

This exhibition composed by installations, videos, sculptures, music and much more, in which art and music students residing in different cities of Germany collaborated under the guidance of Raphael Sbrzesny, the different aspects and complex history of the building is explored through live and recorded performances, daily workshops and an extensive and intimate communication amongst all people involved. Thus, replicating the diverse phases unwrapped in this place since its construction in 1898.

This painting is the biggest painting I have ever done until this day, and also the first one in acrylic paint. It depicts the silhouettes of athletes from different nationalities that competed in the Olympic Games of 1936. The scrutiny this event has had throughout history is represented by the eyes observing at the silhouettes, the surroundings and the spectator. The mirror flooring, idea of Leon Berger and fellow art student/collaborator, is an invitation to the audience to reflect and engage with the troubled yet comforting atmosphere the black and white canvas might bring upon.

Video and postproduction by Hagen Betzwieser, 2021.
